Dually-trained in Law and Mental Health Counseling, Colette Rodgers received her law degree from St. Thomas University and her Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Florida Atlantic University, and is currently a doctoral candidate completing her Ph.D. Degree in Counseling at Florida Atlantic University.
Colette practiced matrimonial and family law as a partner for six years at the Law Firm of Corcoran & Elkins, LLP with it's principle office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Colette was formerly known as Colette Lee Corcoran, Esquire. After relocating to the west coast of Florida, Colette opened her own law offices, the Rodgers Law Firm, P.A.
While at St. Thomas University, Colette served as an Articles Editor of the Law Review and completed an Honors Internship with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Quantico, Virginia. She also completed her internship in Mental Health Counseling as a family therapist at several mental health counseling centers in South Florida and is currenlty a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Colette also has previous psychology experience working as a therapist concentrating in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders, and as an addictions counselor.
Colette currently teaches two courses in the Department of Counselor Education at Florida Atlantic University at both the Boca Raton, Florida and Davie, Florida campuses. Colette has experience teaching at the graduate level Legal and Ethical Issues in Counseling, Theories and Techniques in Counseling, Processes in Counseling, Lifespan Development, Practicum and Advanced Practicum.
Colette is a member of the Family Law Sections of the Lee and Broward County Bar Associations, as well being a member of the Florida Bar and the American Counseling Association. Colette is a also a proud member of the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce.
Colette's publication credits include writing the legal portion of Ethical and Professional Issues in Counseling and Psychotherapy Practice, a leading treatise on the legal and ethical issues in counseling, co-authoring a chapter on Inclusion of the Family in the Treatment of Juvenile Sex Offenders, and an article entitled Comparison of Perpetration Characteristics Between Male Juvenile and Adult Sexual Offenders: Preliminary Results, in Sexual Abuse: A Journal of Resarch of Treatment and numerous other articles and giving national and local presentations on the topics of both family law and counseling.
